Getting Ready for Sun-Kissed Winter Escapes

The weather might be dipping lower into the single digits here in London, but for places like Rio de Janeiro, the sun is shining brightly with temperatures as high as 30 degrees. If you’re lucky enough to be jet-setting away to warmer climes this winter, it’s important to prep and pack the right skincare for your trip.

In this article, we’re going to cover the different products and why you should use them during the various parts of your journey.

Before You Go

Now, you don’t want to leave with dull skin. The cold weather can wreak havoc and leave your skin drier than usual. Most people load up on heavy duty moisturizers when it starts to get chilly, but they forget one important thing. Exfoliation! When dead skin accumulates on your face, it can leave it dim, textured and open to breakouts.

Ayuna’s Essence offers double exfoliation, chemical and physical, via Gluconolactone and Microcrystalline Phytocellulose. Skin is left refined, smooth and polished. Follow it up with their Facial Low, to further brighten and strengthen the skin. Lactobacillus ferment provides prebiotic benefits, aiding to heal skins biome.

On The Airplane

As much as we love hopping flights, those high altitudes and cold temperatures can sometimes be a bit much on the skin. Because planes don’t have any ventilation, all the oxygen going through your lungs, and into your skin, skin is recycled. This air is extremely drying, and the lack of moisture leads to trans-epidermal water loss.

That is why after a flight, skin can feel tight and dehydrated. When flying long distances, we recommend going as make-up free as possible, and if you can’t, a great make-up remover such as Eau Micellaire Biosensible from Biologique Recherche can help refresh your skin before you land, while infusing it with hydrating ingredients such Xylitol and Sodium Gluconate. Sealing it off with Ayuna’s Cellular Oil, which contains non-comedogenic Sunflower and Almond, to moisturise skin without ever feeling heavy.

In The Sun

What’s a holiday without sunshine? Those shorts and suns dresses are not going to wear themselves! But here at Embassy of Beauty, if there’s product we swear by, it’s sunscreen. As great as the sun feels on skin, it produces radiation that can lead to tons of skin complications, such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and even skin cancer. Thankfully for us, sunscreen formulas have evolved into sophisticated skincare products, that not only protect against the sun's rays, but also provide wonderful cosmetic benefits as well.

Take Velo by Ayuna. A tinted SPF that forgoes the dreaded “white cast”, it equips skin with 6 levels of protection: anti-pollution barrier, antioxidant barrier, light barrier, water barrier, lipidic barrier, and postbiotic barrier. All these barriers make for one of the most effective sunscreens we’ve tried. Not only does it shield skin with an SPF of 50, but ingredients such as Marshmallow Root, Bisabolol, Trehalose allow skin to protect itself from other environmental assaults as well.

After The Sun

No matter how great the sunscreen, or how much you apply (and reapply), post sun care can make a big difference on your skin. Depending on your skin type, the sun's rays can either trigger breakouts, or suck away too much moisture. Fear not! For we can counteract the effect with a quick 15-minute masking session. For those pesky blackheads, the Sapelo Anti-Aging Enzyme Mask works to slough away debris and dead skin. Pumpkin Seed gently buffs, and yeast extract intensely rebalances skin. On the other hand, Masque Visolastine+ from Biologique Recherche infuses skin with relipidating and hydrating ingredients such as Macadamia Oil, Saccharide Isomerate Rhizobian Gum. Skin is left plump, dewy and rejuvenated.

Healthy skin is all about giving it what it needs, when it needs. The ethos of one of the brands on this list is that skin is in constant change. So, wherever you are, always remember to assess your skin, and give it what it truly requires. Whether on an airplane, or poolside at a resort.
