Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT EMBASSY OF BEAUTY

What is Embassy of Beauty?

Embassy of Beauty is a UK-based curator of the world's most niche and exceptional beauty brands, selling online across the UK and US and offering in-clinic facial treatments at our Kensington townhouse.

We travel beyond the mainstream to find innovators, artisans and visionaries redefining beauty in their own way, so you can discover products you won't find everywhere else.

Who founded Embassy of Beauty?

Embassy of Beauty was founded in London in 2018 by Natalie Kingsley-Fieldgrass and Theo Fieldgrass.

It opened as a skincare retailer and facial clinic on Kensington Church Street, and now curates more than twenty niche brands, sold online in the UK and US.

Is Embassy of Beauty a legitimate company?

Yes. Embassy of Beauty Ltd is registered in England and Wales (company number 11104608) and has traded since 2018 from 3 Kensington Church Street, London W8 4LB, where it runs a retail space and facial clinic.

Every product is sourced directly from the brand or its official distributor.

Is Embassy of Beauty in London connected to the Embassy of Beauty spas in Paris or Dubai?

No. Embassy of Beauty in London is an independent UK company and is not connected to the Embassy of Beauty medical spa group in Paris and Dubai.

How does Embassy of Beauty choose which brands to sell?

Every brand we stock goes through a curation process built on three principles: authenticity, efficacy and transparency.

We look for founders with genuine purpose, formulations that truly work, and brands that are open about their ingredients and processes. If a product doesn't meet all three, it doesn't make the cut.

Are Embassy of Beauty's products tested before they're sold?

Yes. Every product is rigorously tested by our team across a range of skin types and concerns before it reaches our shelves.

From sensitive to resilient skin, hydration to acne, we observe results, monitor reactions and assess formulation performance, packaging and feel — so everything we offer has genuinely been experienced by us first.

Is Embassy of Beauty an authorised stockist, and are your products genuine?

Yes. Embassy of Beauty sources every product directly from the brand or its official distributor, so everything you buy is 100% genuine.

Brands such as Biologique Recherche and AUTEUR also ship with anti-counterfeiting security tags so you can verify authenticity on arrival.

Do you have a physical store or clinic?

Yes. Our Kensington townhouse at 3 Kensington Church Street, London W8 4LB is both our UK office and a working clinic, offering facial treatments alongside our full product range.

You can shop online across embassyofbeauty.co.uk (UK) and embassyofbeauty.co (US), or visit us in person to shop and book a treatment.

Who is Embassy of Beauty for?

Embassy of Beauty is for anyone who wants considered, hard-to-find beauty from brands they won't find on the high street.

Our edit spans more than twenty brands across clinical skincare, body care, haircare, and personal and home fragrance — so there's a fit whether you want visible results or a more sensorial ritual.

BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE

What is Biologique Recherche?

Biologique Recherche is a Parisian personalised-skincare brand, founded in the late 1970s by Yvan and Josette Allouche, built around its "Skin Instant©" diagnostic concept and cold-processed, high-concentration actives.

Why can't I buy the original Lotion P50 1970 in the UK?

The original formula contains phenol, an ingredient banned for cosmetic use in the EU and UK, so it can't legally be sold here.

Biologique Recherche has reformulated phenol-free versions, which we stock in full.

What's the difference between Lotion P50 and PIGM 400?

Both are Biologique Recherche exfoliating lotions, but PIGM 400 is developed specifically to help with pigmentation and is typically used as part of a combined evening regimen, while Lotion P50 is the brand's foundational, multi-purpose exfoliating lotion.

Which Lotion P50 should I use?

Choose by skin type: Lotion P50 suits oily and thicker, keratinised skin; Lotion P50W suits thin, reactive or normal skin; Lotion P50V suits devitalised or less toned skin; and Lotion P50 PIGM 400 suits pigmented or dull skin.

If you are new to the range, Lotion P50W gives the gentlest exfoliation. The original phenol-based Lotion P50 1970 is not sold in the UK.

What's the difference between Lotion P50 and Lotion P50W?

Lotion P50 is the strongest formulation, made for oily and thicker skin. Lotion P50W gives a gentler, slower exfoliation for thin, reactive or normal skin, and adds soothing arnica and allantoin.

Both use a blend of AHA, BHA and PHA acids with niacinamide.

How do I start using Lotion P50?

For the first two weeks, apply a few drops to a cotton pad dampened with cold water and press it over the face, neck and décolleté once in the evening, without rubbing. If your skin tolerates it, switch to a dry cotton pad after two weeks.

Wear SPF every day while you use any Lotion P50, and keep it away from the eye contour.

Can I use Lotion P50 with retinol?

No. Biologique Recherche advises against using any Lotion P50 alongside other AHAs or vitamin A products, such as retinol or retinoids.

Also avoid Lotion P50 for at least one month after an invasive aesthetic treatment, straight after a peel or laser treatment, and on damaged or irritated skin.

What's the difference between Lait VIP O2 and Lait E.V.?

Lait VIP O2 is an oxygenating cleansing milk for stressed, devitalised or dull skin. Lait E.V. is a nourishing cleansing milk, with essential fatty acids, hyaluronic acid and vitamins E and F, for dehydrated, devitalised or mature skin.

Lait VIP O2 contains nuts and does not suit hypersensitive or rosacea-prone skin. Lait E.V. is not recommended for oily (seborrhoeic) skin.

Is Embassy of Beauty an authorised Biologique Recherche stockist?

Yes. Embassy of Beauty buys Biologique Recherche directly from the brand's official UK distributor, so every product is genuine and carries the brand's Prooftag® authenticity seal.

What happens during a Biologique Recherche facial at Embassy of Beauty?

Each facial starts with an assessment of your skin on the day. Your therapist then uses Biologique Recherche products and targeted massage techniques chosen for that skin.

See our Facial Treatments page for the current menu and prices.

Where are Biologique Recherche products made?

All Biologique Recherche products are made in the brand's own factory in Suresnes, France.

Are Biologique Recherche products tested on animals?

No. Biologique Recherche is against animal testing in all its forms.

Are Biologique Recherche products free from parabens and silicones?

Yes. No paraben or silicone preservatives are used in Biologique Recherche formulas.

What is the shelf life of Biologique Recherche products once opened?

Once opened, most products last 3–12 months, depending on the item — check the best-before date on the packaging.

Unopened, products are good for 12–30 months from manufacture.

How do I know my Biologique Recherche product is genuine?

Look for the Prooftag® anti-counterfeiting seal — a QR code and Bubble Tag™ — which confirms authenticity and traceability.

What's Biologique Recherche's bestselling product at Embassy of Beauty?

Lotion P50 is Biologique Recherche's bestseller with us, alongside Masque Vivant and Lait VIP O2.

SKIN TYPES, CONCERNS & SKINCARE TERMS

What is melasma?

Melasma is a common pigmentation condition that causes patches of darker skin, most often on the face.

It can be managed with consistent skincare and sun protection, though it isn't something that can be cured.

What's the difference between melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation?

Melasma is typically linked to hormonal changes and sun exposure and tends to appear as larger, symmetrical patches, while post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a mark left behind once skin has healed from inflammation, such as a spot, and usually appears smaller and more localised.

Both are forms of hyperpigmentation, and both respond to consistent sun protection.

Are melasma and chloasma the same thing?

Largely, yes — chloasma is an older term for the same condition, most often used specifically when melasma appears during pregnancy, sometimes called the "mask of pregnancy."

Today, most dermatologists simply use "melasma" to describe the condition regardless of the cause.

What is rosacea, and can it be cured?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness, visible blood vessels and sometimes small bumps, most often across the cheeks and nose.

It can't be cured, but it can usually be managed well. If you think you may have rosacea, it's worth getting a diagnosis from a dermatologist or GP.

What can trigger a rosacea flare-up?

Common triggers include sun exposure, heat, spicy food, alcohol, stress and certain skincare ingredients, though triggers vary considerably from person to person.

Keeping a simple diary of flare-ups alongside diet, weather and products can help identify individual triggers.

What does "barrier-first" skincare mean?

Barrier-first skincare is an approach that prioritises strengthening the skin's outer protective layer before introducing active ingredients, on the principle that a healthy barrier is what lets actives work without causing irritation.

How can a damaged skin barrier be repaired?

A damaged skin barrier generally needs time, simplification and support — cutting back to a gentle cleanser, a barrier-supporting moisturiser and sun protection, while pausing strong actives such as retinoids or exfoliating acids until the skin has settled.

Signs of a compromised barrier include tightness, stinging, redness and unusual sensitivity to products that were previously well tolerated.

What is the "skin microbiome", and why do some brands focus on it?

The skin microbiome is the community of bacteria and other microorganisms living on the skin's surface, which plays a role in keeping it healthy and balanced.

Some brands we stock formulate specifically to support this balance, using prebiotic, probiotic or postbiotic ingredients rather than working against it.

What's the difference between an AHA and a BHA exfoliant?

AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) are water-soluble and work on the skin's surface, which suits texture and brightness, while BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) are oil-soluble and can get into pores, which suits congestion and blackheads.

What is azelaic acid, and what is it used for?

Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring acid often used to help with redness, uneven tone and congestion, and it's generally considered gentle enough for sensitised or rosacea-prone skin.

What's the difference between "clinical" and "ritual-led" skincare?

Clinical skincare is generally built around measurable actives and dermatological science, aimed at visible change. Ritual-led skincare puts more weight on the experience of application itself, alongside its effect on the skin.

We stock brands across both traditions, and plenty of products draw on both.

Is it safe to use skincare products during pregnancy?

Some ingredients, such as high-strength retinoids and certain essential oils, are generally advised against during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Several of the brands we stock, including Biologique Recherche and AYUNA, state that specific ranges are formulated to be pregnancy-safe — always check the individual product page, and check with your doctor or midwife if you're ever unsure.

Does Embassy of Beauty offer products for sensitive, oily, dry or mature skin?

Yes. Several of our brands — including Biologique Recherche, AYUNA, Jorgobé and Bodyologist — formulate specifically for different skin types, alongside targeted ranges from elsewhere in our edit.

Browse by concern using the filters on our site, or contact our concierge team on +44 (0)20 3358 9998 if you'd like help finding the right fit.

How long does it typically take to see a change from a new skincare product?

Skin renews on roughly a 28-day cycle, so most new products need at least four to six weeks of consistent use before any change becomes visible, with some concerns, such as pigmentation, taking longer.

What facial treatments do you offer, and how much do they cost?

What happens if my return is lost in the post?

We're unable to treat an item as returned if it's lost in transit, which is why we recommend sending returns using a tracked service.

Keep your proof of postage and tracking number in case you need to raise a claim with the courier.

ORDERS & PAYMENT

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express, as well as Apple Pay.

When will my card be charged?

Your card is debited and cleared at the point your order is placed, not when it ships.

Can I cancel or amend my order after I've placed it?

Contact our concierge team on +44 (0)20 3358 9998 as soon as possible — we can amend or cancel an order before it's despatched, but not once it's on its way to you.

Once an order has shipped, you'll need to return it instead — see our Returns & Refunds section.

Will I receive confirmation of my order?

Yes — you'll receive an email confirmation immediately once your order has been successfully placed.

My payment was declined — what should I do?

Double-check your card details and try again, or contact your bank; if the issue continues, call us on +44 (0)20 3358 9998 and we'll help.

Can I claim VAT back on an online order?

We don't provide Tax Free Shopping forms for online orders; overseas visitors should check the HMRC website or reclaim VAT airside when departing the UK.

Can I request samples before I buy?

We're not able to send samples ahead of a purchase, but every order over £200 includes three complimentary samples chosen for you.

Does my basket save if I don't check out?

Yes — your basket is saved between visits as long as you stay logged in and have cookies enabled.

ACCOUNT & MYEB REWARDS

How do I create an account?

Click the "My EB" icon, select "Create an account", and fill in your details.

I've forgotten my password — what do I do?

Click "Forgot your password?" on the login page, enter your email, and follow the reset link we send you.

How do I update my account or card details?

Log in and go to "Your Account" to amend your details; card details are stored via PCI-compliant tokenisation, so contact us to remove a saved card.

What is MyEB Rewards, and how do I join?

MyEB Rewards is our free loyalty programme — simply create an Embassy of Beauty account and you're automatically enrolled, with 75 points to start plus 1 point for every £1 you spend.

How do I earn points?

You earn points on every purchase, plus for leaving product reviews, adding your birthday, and referring friends.

How much are my points worth, and how do I redeem them?

Every 100 points is worth a £10 voucher — redeem it under "My Rewards" in your account, then apply it at checkout.

Each voucher must be used in a single purchase and can't be split across orders.

How long do my points last before they expire?

Points expire one year from the date of the purchase that earned them.

What happens to my points if I return an order?

Points earned on that purchase are automatically removed, and you can re-earn them on your next order.

How do I check my rewards balance or tier status?

Log in and check your Account Overview page — your tier status renews every 12 months from the date you joined MyEB Rewards.

How do I refer a friend to Embassy of Beauty?

Find your referral link under "Refer Your Friends" in the Earn Rewards section of your account, and share it directly — sharing via coupon sites isn't permitted.

If your friend cancels or returns their order, the referral points won't be credited.

How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter or leave MyEB Rewards?

Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email; to leave MyEB Rewards entirely, email concierge@embassyofbeauty.co.uk.

Leaving the programme forfeits any accrued points, and rejoining later starts your balance back at zero.
