Frequently Asked Questions

BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE

Expand Why can’t I buy the Lotion P50 1970 in the UK?

In 1970, Yvan Allouche created the first Lotions P50, exfoliating lotions to be used for daily skin care. Unique of its kind, this progressive exfoliating treatment purifies, cleanses and reconditions, restoring the skin's original capacity to regenerate itself and glow from within. However, the original formulas contain phenol, which is an ingredient that has been banned in the European Union. Phenol was responsible for a tingling, burning sensation on the skin, and these formulas are currently only available in the U.S. Biologique Recherche took the opportunity to reformulate phenol-free Lotions P50 to improve the formulas with new and results-driven ingredients. The new formulations of Lotions P50 are available in the UK, please visit the page here.

Expand What does Ayuna mean?

Expand What is topical fasting?

Topical fasting is an approach to promote the proper functioning of the skin, without overstimulating and overfeeding it and providing it only with what it needs. The basis for cosmetic fasting is the same as oral fasting: when we eliminate over-stimulation, limit food intake, and follow a balanced diet, the repair and regeneration mechanisms immediately kick-in. In this situation, you activate the cell’s function and its natural defences to a normal level.

Expand What is green technology?

Specifically designed as an eco-luxury beauty brand, Ayuna’s botanical scientists have been inspired by the observation and conservation of plant species. They have cultivated, cared for, and researched numerous select plant varieties, from which botanical cells of remarkable quality and effectiveness have been obtained. The cultivation method of these cells is one free of pesticides or contaminants, and which does not exhaust or overexploit our precious natural resources.

Expand What is Ayuna's Scientific Garden?

Ayuna’s Scientific Garden stems from Botanical Cell Cultures derived from wild plants that are adapted to controlled conditions of a laboratory. 2. As a cleansing cream. A gentle cleanser that removes impurities and makeup. Lather by lightly wetting hands and rubbing the soap between your palms, creating a creamy texture. Gently massage over the skin, focussing on areas of concern. Rise with water and dry.

3. As a micellar water. Perfectly compatible with delicate skin. Activate the product using water to create a micellar solution, moisten a cotton pad with the micellar solution, carefully cleanse and/or remove makeup from face and eye contour area.

Expand What is cold saponification?

Saponification is a chemical process in which a fatty element is neutralised in a basic aqueous medium to generate soap & glycerine. The method involves mixing the ingredients, saponification or curing.

Unlike conventional industrial processes, artisanal cold saponification is a much lengthier and more delicate process, involving no heat that guarantees the formula retains all the properties of its ingredients as well as very high glycerine content (at least 7-8%). In addition, by using top-quality raw materials, the artisanal cold process does not require repeated washing of the mixture, which is typical in the industrial process. This makes it a much more sustainable and eco friendly technique.

Every natural soap needs a curing or sedimentation phase. This is the process by which the soap matures for a few weeks in a suitable environmental condition, in a cool, dry area, away from heat and direct light. During this phase, the soap gradually acquires its final firmness and colour, the excess water evaporates, and the chemical process of saponification is completed. As a result, no free irritants remain in the final product, resulting in a fine texture and delicately solid bar.
