Frequently Asked Questions
BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE
In 1970, Yvan Allouche created the first Lotions P50, exfoliating lotions to be used for daily skin care. Unique of its kind, this progressive exfoliating treatment purifies, cleanses and reconditions, restoring the skin's original capacity to regenerate itself and glow from within. However, the original formulas contain phenol, which is an ingredient that has been banned in the European Union. Phenol was responsible for a tingling, burning sensation on the skin, and these formulas are currently only available in the U.S. Biologique Recherche took the opportunity to reformulate phenol-free Lotions P50 to improve the formulas with new and results-driven ingredients. The new formulations of Lotions P50 are available in the UK, please visit the page here.
All Biologique Recherche products are made in their own factory in Suresnes, France.

This system proves product authenticity, and fight against counterfeiting and parallel markets.
Biologique Recherche Oxygenating Complex boasts exceptional oxygenating properties: in vitro tests show that the Oxygenating Complex clearly stimulates cellular respiration, when cells lack oxygen. If you are currently on Roaccutane or any Tretinoin/Retinol/Vitamin A-based product, we would advise you to speak to your dermatologist. We have a range of facial products that would be suitable for seborrheic Skin Instants® that are prone to acne. Once you are off medication, we recommend that you have a four-week break before starting hydroxy acid-based products such as our Lotions P50.

If you are affected by rosacea, we highly recommend that you utilise our Targeted Sérum, Sérum Erythros, combined with our Biosensible range. With rosacea, we advise that you have a simple skin care routine. Please contact us for further information on how to alleviate redness and reduce blood flow to the skin using Biologique Recherche.
Of course – we don’t expect all of our customers to have a full Biologique Recherche skin care routine! However, we advise that you consult us before using any other skin care product alongside your Biologique Recherche care as it may counteract the effects of our products or sensitise your skin.
AYUNA
Ayuna was created and is made in Spain.
Ayuna translates to 'fasting' in Spanish
Topical fasting is an approach to promote the proper functioning of the skin, without overstimulating and overfeeding it and providing it only with what it needs. The basis for cosmetic fasting is the same as oral fasting: when we eliminate over-stimulation, limit food intake, and follow a balanced diet, the repair and regeneration mechanisms immediately kick-in. In this situation, you activate the cell’s function and its natural defences to a normal level.
Specifically designed as an eco-luxury beauty brand, Ayuna’s botanical scientists have been inspired by the observation and conservation of plant species. They have cultivated, cared for, and researched numerous select plant varieties, from which botanical cells of remarkable quality and effectiveness have been obtained. The cultivation method of these cells is one free of pesticides or contaminants, and which does not exhaust or overexploit our precious natural resources.
Ayuna’s Scientific Garden stems from Botanical Cell Cultures derived from wild plants that are adapted to controlled conditions of a laboratory. It is a vertical, sustainable, and indoor in vitro culture system, from which a high cell density suspension is obtained that is rich in growth factors, transcription and epigenetic factors and peptides.
Ayuna products are formulated to protect the skin’s microbiota with a unique combination of microbiome-friendly preservatives of natural origin.
Ayuna is vegan-friendly and is free-from animal derived ingredients (excluding Cream II, which does include beeswax to help with its richer texture).
Ayuna is completely cruelty free. The brand never has and never will be tested on animals.
All of Ayuna’s ingredients are naturally sourced and, whenever possible, organic. Many of their products boast ingredient lists that are more than 50% organic.
Ayuna uses cultivation methods that have a minimal water consumption and carbon footprint. Using water derived from fruit, rather than traditional water sources, Ayuna uses the smallest amount of water during the production of their products. By using pure botanical ingredients that are pesticide and herbicide free, the production of these products does not damage the environment in which ingredients are found and cultivated.
All of Ayuna’s packaging is completely recyclable. The packaging is made with aminoplastics, rather than conventional plastics. These plastics have a much smaller carbon footprint and the energy consumed during production is also much less than other plastics. Waste and surplus product can also be used on fertilisers for the agricultural industry as part of the same production system.
Ayuna products are developed free from all ingredients that are of concern:
EDTA, BHT, BHA, Phthalates, Synthetic musk, Formaldehyde, Halogenated organic compounds, Isothiazolinones, Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl alcohol, Acrylates, Acrylamides, Polyacrylamides, Vinyl & Styrene derivatives, Ethoxylated compounds, Nitrosamine agents, Per & Polyfluroalkyl substances (PFAS), Petrochemicals (propylene glycol, mineral oil), Sulphates, Quats & amines, Synthetic dyes, Aluminium salts, Talc, Siloxanes and Silanes, Toluene, Xylene, Hydroquinone, Retinoids, Chemical sunscreens, Heavy metal & pesticide carriers, Nanoparticles, GMO, Animal origin ingredients, Ionizing radiation.
All ingredients are EcoCert, Natrue, Cosmos and/or ISO Compliant.
All Ayuna products have a shelf life of 12 months once opened. Best before dates can be found on the underside of each product.
Yes! All of Ayuna’s product are safe to be used during pregnancy.
The iconic scent found in all Ayuna products. A cocktail of natural aromatic essential oils: gurjum balm, holywood, myrrh, chamomile, rosemary and buchu.
Mainly the texture, and therefore the skin types each cream is going to work best for. Cream I has a lighter texture, meaning it will pair beautifully with oily / combination skin types. Cream II on the other hand is richer, pairing better with dryer skin types in need of nourishing (Cream II also has added beeswax).
Ayuna’s facials are powders in lotion, that need to be shaken prior to use, resulting in a creamier texture. The facials also use a raspberry vinegar, rather than the apple cider found in the Lotion P50 range. The Ayuna facials also include fermented lactobacillus and cocos nucifera. These are post-biotics. Peptide technology that maintains the balance of the skin’s microbiome by promoting the survival of beneficial microorganisms, as well as providing broad-spectrum protection to the formula against bacteria, yeast, and mould. It also acts as a natural and probiotic preservative.
The Facial Low is generally better for more sensitive skin types, and those who have not used a chemical exfoliant before. The Facial High works best on thicker, more oily skin types.
For dryer skin types we recommend Soap Rich, the Facial Low, Essence, Cellular Oil, Cream III and Velo.
For oily / combination skin types we recommend Soap Detox, the Facial High, Essence, Balm, Cream, Velo.
For normal / balanced skin types we recommend Soap, the Facial Low, Essence, Balm, Cellular Oil, Cream II, Velo.
For mature skin types we recommend Soap Rich, the Facial Low, Balm, Cellular Oil, Cream III and Velo.
For those with sensitive skin we recommend Soap or Soap Rich, the Facial Low, Balm, Cellular Oil, Cream III and Velo.
No! THC is the compound found in cannabis that is the cause of psychoactive effects. Cream III features cannabis sativa callus lysate which is the first generation of cannabis sativa stem cells.
If you are currently on Roaccutane or any Tretinoin/Retinol/Vitamin A based product, we would advise you to speak to your dermatologist. For those with active and / or infected acne we would recommend following a Biologique Recherche prescription designed specifically to target this, once this is dealt with, then we could look at moving onto an Ayuna routine.
Ayuna soaps can be used three ways.
1. As a cleansing mousse. For oily complexions or skin with visible pores, that does not leave an oily residue. Activate it using a cosmetic brush and water to create a creamy foam and massage onto the skin. Remove with warm water and dry.
2. As a cleansing cream. A gentle cleanser that removes impurities and makeup. Lather by lightly wetting hands and rubbing the soap between your palms, creating a creamy texture. Gently massage over the skin, focussing on areas of concern. Rise with water and dry.
3. As a micellar water. Perfectly compatible with delicate skin. Activate the product using water to create a micellar solution, moisten a cotton pad with the micellar solution, carefully cleanse and/or remove makeup from face and eye contour area.
This product can be used once or twice a week. Apply a thick and uniform layer, wait 5 minutes, buff the skin by gently swiping your hand over the skin and rolling the product away, rinse excess and dry.
This product can be used once or twice a week. Apply a fine layer after the cleansing ritual, allow 5-1 minutes, emulsify by adding plenty of water and using gentle circular movements over the skin, rinse the mask off in the shower or remove with warm moistened sponges.
Saponification is a chemical process in which a fatty element is neutralised in a basic aqueous medium to generate soap & glycerine. The method involves mixing the ingredients, saponification or curing.
Unlike conventional industrial processes, artisanal cold saponification is a much lengthier and more delicate process, involving no heat that guarantees the formula retains all the properties of its ingredients as well as very high glycerine content (at least 7-8%). In addition, by using top-quality raw materials, the artisanal cold process does not require repeated washing of the mixture, which is typical in the industrial process. This makes it a much more sustainable and eco friendly technique.
Every natural soap needs a curing or sedimentation phase. This is the process by which the soap matures for a few weeks in a suitable environmental condition, in a cool, dry area, away from heat and direct light. During this phase, the soap gradually acquires its final firmness and colour, the excess water evaporates, and the chemical process of saponification is completed. As a result, no free irritants remain in the final product, resulting in a fine texture and delicately solid bar.
Firstly, cannabis sativa callus lysate is the first generation of cannabis sativa stem cells, that act on the microbiota-skin-brain axis and act as the first instant mood lifter stimulating positive emotions.
Curcuma longa callus lysate is a plasma that consists of the concentrate metabolome of totipotent cells from turmeric rhizome. This metabolome is rich in stress-related cell factors specially designed to act synergistically against brain-skin connection induced stress.
Ayuna uses plasmas rich in botanical cell factors (from pomegranate, cotton, green carrot, turmeric, and noni). They are a synergistic combination of stem cells, growth factors, plus transcription and epigenetic factors.
The lemon water used in Ayuna’s products is 100% organic. It is sublimated water that provides an immediate hydrating effect and enzymatic activity.
Growth factors are proteins that are naturally produced by skin cells and are responsible for maintaining homeostasis, which helps keep your skin alive and healthy. In simpler terms, the purpose of growth factors is to ac as a healing agent.
These fractions represent the first generation of genuine plant peptides.
Epigenetic skincare focuses on the change in skin cells caused by the modification of DNA expression. They can stimulate issue regeneration and protein turnover, resulting in smoother, healthier and younger-looking skin.

SKIN CARE
Every day, morning and evening, except if you are exposed to sun or have sensitive skin. In the case of the former, we would recommend that you only use our exfoliating lotions in the evening and always use SPF protection. If you have sensitive skin, you can space out uses and dilute the exfoliation lotion by using a dampened cotton pad instead of a dry one.
We advise that you use SPF protection daily, as the last step of your skin care regime. If you are using Biologique Recherche products, the application should happen after your Cream or Finishing Sérum if you use any. Please reapply Protection U.V. SPF 25 regularly (every two hours). Note that Biologique Recherche also has two other solar products: Préparation U.V. and Réparation U.V., to prepare the skin before sun exposure and repair it after exposure.
