Understanding Acne Scarring & Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a common skin condition that occurs when excess melanin is produced after inflammation, resulting in dark spots or patches. It often follows acne, eczema or injuries, particularly in those with medium to darker skin tones. PIH is not a true scar but can resemble one due to its lingering discolouration. Skincare for PIH focuses on brightening ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide and retinoids to reduce pigmentation, while sun protection is essential to prevent spots from darkening. Unlike scars, PIH usually fades over time but can benefit from targeted treatments.

In-vivo test conducted on 20 volunteers aged 21 to 44 with old traces of acne. Clinical scoring was performed
after applying the product twice daily for 56 days.

Ex-vivo test on skin explants subject to mechanical injury on D0. The product was applied 5 times over 8 days.
Analyses were carried out on days 3 and 10 of the study, on newly formed epidermis at the edges of the lesion
(buds).
The Results:
1) After 3 and 10 days, the product induces an increase in the length of newly formed epidermis,
reflecting the improved migration of newly formed keratinocytes.
2) After just 3 days, the product induces an increase in the expression of fibronectin (early
dermal marker of the regeneration process) in the normal area and on the edges of lesions.
This shows the improved adhesion of newly formed epidermis to the dermis.

USAGE TEST:
Test conducted on 20 volunteers aged 21 to 44 with old traces of acne. The participants applied the product twice
daily for 28 days.
