About the Brand
Brand logo
Founded in Paris in the late 1970s by biologist Yvan Allouche and physiotherapist Josette Allouche, Biologique Recherche began as a laboratory for bespoke, high-performance formulas for elite skin professionals. Their medical-grade precision and artisanal formulation, paired with consummate savoir-faire, underpin their reputation for outstanding, clinically proven results.

Biologique Recherche treats skin according to its Skin Instant©, the skin’s precise, evolving state. Each formula is loaded with active ingredients in exceptional concentrations, then prescribed to address those real-time needs. This precision approach corrects imbalances, restores function, and delivers visible, lasting transformation.

Cold-processed actives are the core of Biologique Recherche. Formulated at 18–25°C, this method avoids the 70°C heat of standard processing that breaks down actives. Botanical, marine, and biotechnological extracts stay intact for higher absorption, stronger repair, and better tolerance. Antioxidants, peptides, and enzymes remain stable, ensuring consistent, visible results.

Chemical Exfoliation

Chemical exfoliation uses acids to dissolve the "glue" holding dead skin cells together, promoting skin cell turnover and replacing old cells with new, healthy ones. Acids like AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs not only help shed skin but also offer benefits like brightening, clarifying, and anti-ageing, depending on the type used.

Brightening (Energising)

Brightening skincare involves using active ingredients to boost your blood circulation, detoxification and cellular energy. Improved blood circulation brings more essential nutrients and oxygen to your skin, while detoxification helps eliminate cell waste and impurities that can make your skin look dull. Certain active ingredients also enhance your skin's metabolism and regeneration. These combined actions restore your skin's vitality and radiant appearance, giving you a fresh, energised complexion.

Anti-Bacterial

Anti-bacterial action targets and inhibits the growth of bacteria on your skin's surface. Anti-bacterial ingredients work by disrupting essential bacterial processes like cell wall synthesis or protein production, reducing the risk of skin infections and inflammation. They are especially effective for treating acne by controlling the acne-causing bacteria known as Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes). This anti-bacterial action helps diminish imperfections, prevent new breakouts, and reduce irritation, giving you clearer, healthier skin.

Anti-Inflammatory

Anti-Inflammatory skincare soothes, heal, and balance your skin, the targeted actives are designed to reduce inflammation. Inflammation is your body's natural response to injury or irritation, but continuous inflammation can lead to troublesome skin conditions like acne, rosacea, or eczema. Our anti-inflammatory skincare solutions work to soothe and calm your skin, reducing redness, swelling, and discomfort to provide much-needed relief. By strengthening your skin's barrier, these products help protect against further irritation and damage. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory actives support your skin's natural healing processes, leading to a more balanced and resilient complexion.

Sebum Regulating (Mattifying)

Sebum regulation involves normalising oil production in your sebaceous glands to reduce shine, oiliness and breakouts, restoring your skin's natural balance. Overactive sebaceous glands can be triggered by internal factors like genetics, hormonal changes and stress, as well as external factors such as using stripping or overly active skincare, climate, pollution and diet. Excessive sebum production can lead to enlarged pores, acne and an oily, shiny appearance. Effective sebum regulation means using skincare products that balance oil levels without over-drying your skin, helping you achieve a clearer, more matte complexion.

Pore Decongesting

Pore decongesting focuses on both clearing and minimising the appearance of enlarged pores. Enlarged pores often result from excess oil production and the build-up of impurities within the pore, which can stretch them over time, while ageing further contributes as reduced elasticity makes them more visible. Effective formulations work first to clear the pores—dissolving and removing trapped sebum, debris, and congestion—before regulating oil production and supporting collagen and elastin to improve skin firmness. By addressing both internal build-up and structural integrity, pores can return to a clearer, more refined, and less noticeable state.

Purifying

Purifying skincare is designed to deeply cleanse and decongest the skin by targeting excess oil at its source—within the pores. Rather than simply removing surface shine, these formulations work to dissolve and dislodge sebum, debris, and impurities trapped inside the pore lining, helping to prevent congestion, blackheads, and breakouts. Actives such as exfoliating acids and oil-regulating ingredients penetrate into the pore to effectively “strip out” excess oil, restoring clarity and refining skin texture. By clearing buildup from within, purifying treatments leave the skin feeling exceptionally clean, balanced and visibly smoother.

Anti-Pigmentation

Dealing with pigmentation means targeting melanin overproduction to reduce dark spots and prevent new ones. Melanin production can be triggered by UV exposure, pollution, hormonal changes (like during pregnancy), and inflammation (from acne or cuts). This excess pigment is then transferred to surrounding cells in epidermis called keratinocytes, which then moves to the skin's surface, causing visible dark spots.

To treat hyperpigmentation, a personalised and consistent approach is needed. Our anti-pigmentation products include lightening agents to block tyrosinase (the enzyme that creates melanin), antioxidants to fight free radicals, and ingredients to speed up skin cell turnover, removing pigmented cells. Using broad-spectrum sun protection is crucial to prevent new pigmentation during treatment.

Plumping

Plumping involves using active ingredients to boost the production of key structural components like collagen, the dermal-epidermal junction and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), giving your skin more volume and density. Collagen provides structural support and firmness, while the dermal-epidermal junction, a thin connective layer, ensures smooth, wrinkle-free skin by facilitating cell communication. GAGs, like hyaluronic acid, keep your skin hydrated and plump from within. By stimulating these components, active ingredients help restore your skin's plumpness and radiance.

Physical Exfoliation

Physical exfoliation focuses on manually removing dead skin cells and surface buildup to instantly smooth and refine the skin. Using fine particles or textured tools, it works to lift away dulling debris, excess oil, and impurities that can contribute to rough texture and clogged pores. This process not only clears the skin’s surface but also helps to decongest pores, allowing them to appear smaller and more refined. By promoting a smoother, more even skin texture and enhancing the effectiveness of subsequent products, physical exfoliation leaves the complexion looking brighter, clearer, and more polished.

Skin Barrier Strengthening

Strengthening your skin barrier involves replenishing the key elements in the top layer of your skin (stratum corneum), leading to a stronger and healthier barrier. These essential elements include lipids (ceramides, fatty acids, and cholesterol) and Natural Moisturizing Factors (amino acids, hyaluronic acid, etc.). Various factors, such as incorrect skincare use, seasonal changes, and aesthetic treatments, can damage your skin barrier. When this happens, your skin loses excess water through Trans Epidermal Water Loss (T.E.W.L) and becomes less capable of defending against environmental stressors, resulting in dryness, sensitivity, and irritation.

A healthy skin barrier is crucial for overall skin health as it helps prevent hydration loss, protects against environmental damage, and reduces the risk of skin conditions like eczema and acne. By strengthening your skin barrier, you ensure your skin remains well-hydrated, resilient, and protected.

Antioxidant

Antioxidant skincare is dedicated to protecting the skin against oxidative stress—one of the primary drivers of premature ageing and cellular damage—while preserving overall skin integrity and vitality. These formulations rely on potent molecules such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and polyphenols, which neutralize free radicals generated by UV exposure and environmental aggressors before they can compromise cellular structures like lipids, proteins, and DNA. Beyond defence, many antioxidants also support repair processes and enhance collagen stability, contributing to improved firmness, brightness and resilience. The result is skin that is not only shielded from ongoing damage but maintained in a healthier, more luminous state over time.

Photo-Protecting

Photo-protecting skincare at a cellular level focuses on defending the skin against the internal damage triggered by UV exposure, rather than simply blocking rays at the surface. Ultraviolet radiation generates free radicals and disrupts cellular DNA, accelerating collagen breakdown, inflammation, and premature ageing. Advanced formulations work by neutralising oxidative stress, supporting DNA repair mechanisms, and strengthening the skin’s natural defence systems to limit long-term damage. By preserving cellular integrity and maintaining healthy skin function, this approach helps prevent visible signs of photo-ageing—such as wrinkles, loss of firmness, and uneven tone.

Alpha-Hydroxy Acids

Alpha-Hydroxy Acids are a chemical exfoliant which exfoliate the top layers of the skin, offering a variety of benefits. They are mostly derived from plant-based sources. Some of the most common AHAs are Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Citric Acid, Mandelic Acid and Malic Acid. Depending on the type of AHA, they can reduce dullness, even skin tone, reduce pigmentation, tighten pores, stimulate collagen production, hydrate the skin and offer antioxidant protection. AHAs are generally less irritating and drying to the skin as they are water-soluble.

Poly-Hydroxy Acids

Poly-Hydroxy Acids are a chemical exfoliant which exfoliate the top layers of the skin. However unlike AHAs & BHAs, they consist of larger molecules so they tend to sit on the surface of the skin for longer and penetrate slowly. Therefore, they are particularly good for more sensitive skins. As well as sloughing off dead skin cells, revealing a smoother, clearer and brighter complexion; this acid is also a fantastic hydrator.

Beta Hydroxy Acid

Beta Hydroxy Acid is a chemical exfoliant which penetrates deeply into pores to dissolve debris and dead skin cells. Because BHAs are oil-soluble, anti-bacterial & anti-inflammatory, they are particularly adept at treating active, inflamed and infected acne; even cystic acne. Also known as Salicylic Acid, this powerful ingredient is great at sebum-regulating the skin, reducing pores, lightening hyperpigmentation, fighting bacteria and easing inflammation.

Complex of Peach Tree Leaf, Apple & Raspberry Extracts

Complex of Peach Tree Leaf, Apple & Raspberry Extract also known as is rich in Vitamin C & Alpha Hydroxy Acids, combining anti-pigmentation activity with lightening and exfoliating actions, to combat sun and age pigmentation. The marriage of these ingredients not only results in a more even complexion where future pigmentation is reduced, but existing pigmentation is lightened.

Australian Finger Lime

Finger Lime Extract is naturally rich in Alpha Hydroxy Acids who's role is to exfoliate the superficial layers of the epidermis, resulting in a softer, brighter and more even complexion. This ingredient also contains vitamins, amino acids, minerals and antioxidants, which all work in conjunction with each other to support the natural health of the skin.

Dulse Extract

Dulse is a seaweed rich in Xylan's & Galactans, which work to reduce melanogenesis (pigmentation) by reducing the speed at which it can reproduce. The result is that it reduces photo induced pigmentation, creating a brighter complexion, a more even skin tone where age spots are diminished.

Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium Chloride contains astringent properties, but also promotes skin regeneration by increasing the amount of collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis.

Cider Vinegar

Cider Vinegar is extracted from fermented apples and contains high concentrations of fruits acids. Particularly potent in Acetic Acid, Citric Acid and Malic Acid; Cider Vinegar contains powerful exfoliating, purifying and renewing properties. High in Polyphenols, this ingredient also has significant antioxidant effects, combatting damageing photo-induced free-radicals.

Physical & Chemical Exfoliation

Physical and chemical exfoliation are two popular techniques for removing dead skin cells and promoting a healthier, more radiant complexion. Each method offers unique benefits and targets skin concerns differently, making them key components in any effective skincare routine. Exfoliation helps to improve skin texture, unclog pores, and enhance the absorption of skincare products, leading to smoother, brighter skin.

Physical exfoliation offers immediate results, while chemical exfoliation promotes deeper, longer-lasting effects without the risk of physical irritation. Physical exfoliation involves the use of scrubs, brushes, or cloths with granules that manually slough off dead skin cells from the surface. This method provides instant smoothness but can sometimes cause micro-tears, making it less suitable for sensitive skin types.

Chemical exfoliation, on the other hand, employs acids (like AHAs, BHAs) or enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells at a deeper level. This process promotes cell turnover, enhances the skin’s natural renewal process, and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, pigmentation, and dullness without abrasive action, making it gentler for sensitive skin.

Physical exfoliation delivers a quick, refreshed feel, but those with sensitive skin might find it too abrasive. Chemical exfoliation gradually reveals smoother, brighter skin with regular use, and is generally better suited for those seeking a gentler approach with deeper results. Users often notice improved skin clarity, reduced congestion, and an overall glow.

Both exfoliation methods have their place in a skincare routine, offering tailored solutions depending on skin type and needs. By choosing the right type of exfoliation, you can achieve a smoother, more radiant complexion that feels fresh, revitalised, and renewed, enhancing your overall skin health and appearance.
