The Demain Beauty Time to Detox Probiotic Cleansing Balm is a 3-in-1 makeup-removing balm for microbiome-compromised skin. Massaged onto dry skin, it melts effortlessly into an oil and then emulsifies into a milk on contact with water, dissolving makeup, SPF and pollution particles in a single step without leaving a greasy residue.

Shea Butter, Moringa Oil and Sunflower Oil form a deeply nourishing lipid complex — Shea softens and calms with anti-inflammatory richness, Moringa actively repairs the skin barrier with its concentrated oleic acid and antioxidant content and Sunflower Oil delivers linoleic acid and Vitamin E to strengthen and protect.

Glycerin and Aloe Vera act as the soothing and hydrating core — Glycerin draws hydration into the skin for lasting suppleness, while Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice calms, hydrates and supports the skin's natural healing response.

Lactobacillus, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide and Yacon Root Juice form a targeted pre- and probiotic microbiome complex — the tyndallized probiotic rebalances skin flora, while the two prebiotic ingredients nourish and diversify beneficial bacteria for a visibly healthier, more resilient complexion with every cleanse.

Kaolin detoxifies and adsorbs pollution particles and impurities without stripping, while Tocopherol, Squalene and Beta-Sitosterol complete the formula with layered antioxidant and barrier defence — Vitamin E neutralises free radicals, Squalene replenishes skin-identical lipids, and Beta-Sitosterol reinforces the barrier with plant-derived anti-inflammatory support.

Nourishing

Nourishing skincare focuses on replenishing the skin with essential lipids, nutrients, and bioactive compounds to restore comfort, resilience, and optimal function. When the skin is depleted—whether through environmental stress, over-exfoliation, or natural ageing—it can become dry, fragile, and less able to protect itself. Nourishing formulations work to rebuild the lipid barrier using ingredients rich in fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, helping to reinforce the skin’s structure while supporting repair and reducing moisture loss. By restoring what the skin lacks, this approach leaves it softer, stronger, and more supple.

Skin Barrier Strengthening

Strengthening your skin barrier involves replenishing the key elements in the top layer of your skin (stratum corneum), leading to a stronger and healthier barrier. These essential elements include lipids (ceramides, fatty acids, and cholesterol) and Natural Moisturizing Factors (amino acids, hyaluronic acid, etc.). Various factors, such as incorrect skincare use, seasonal changes, and aesthetic treatments, can damage your skin barrier. When this happens, your skin loses excess water through Trans Epidermal Water Loss (T.E.W.L) and becomes less capable of defending against environmental stressors, resulting in dryness, sensitivity, and irritation.

A healthy skin barrier is crucial for overall skin health as it helps prevent hydration loss, protects against environmental damage, and reduces the risk of skin conditions like eczema and acne. By strengthening your skin barrier, you ensure your skin remains well-hydrated, resilient, and protected.

Anti-Redness

Anti-Redness skincare is all about reducing and preventing facial or body redness, which can result from irritation, skin conditions, compromised barriers, and hormonal changes. A targeted approach with multiple strategies works best for tackling redness. Anti-Redness formulations include active ingredients that soothe and strengthen your skin barrier. Their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties calm inflammation and protect against environmental irritants. Additionally, these ingredients have vasoconstrictive properties, meaning they reduce blood vessel dilation to lessen redness. Together, these actions help achieve a more even-toned, balanced complexion that's less prone to redness flare-ups.

Anti-Inflammatory

Anti-Inflammatory skincare soothes, heal, and balance your skin, the targeted actives are designed to reduce inflammation. Inflammation is your body's natural response to injury or irritation, but continuous inflammation can lead to troublesome skin conditions like acne, rosacea, or eczema. Our anti-inflammatory skincare solutions work to soothe and calm your skin, reducing redness, swelling, and discomfort to provide much-needed relief. By strengthening your skin's barrier, these products help protect against further irritation and damage. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory actives support your skin's natural healing processes, leading to a more balanced and resilient complexion.

Microbiome Balancing

Microbiome Balancing skincare focuses on supporting the skin’s ecosystem through a precise combination of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics—each playing a distinct and complementary role. Prebiotics act as a targeted nutrient source, feeding and promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms to maintain balance within the skin’s microbiome. Probiotics then introduce and reinforce these beneficial bacteria, helping to strengthen the skin’s natural defenses and reduce the presence of harmful strains. Postbiotics, the bioactive compounds produced through this process, enhance overall skin function by supporting barrier strength, improving hydration, and calming inflammation. Together, this synergistic approach stabilises the skin environment, resulting in a complexion that is clearer, more resilient, and visibly healthier.

Balancing the Skin pH

Skin pH balancing involves keeping your skin's pH slightly acidic, between 4.5 and 6.5. This acidity is vital for the skin’s barrier, known as the acid mantle, which protects against harmful bacteria, pollutants, and environmental stressors while retaining hydration.

When your skin's pH is out of balance, you might experience dryness, irritation, acne, and increased sensitivity. Using skincare products that balance your skin’s pH helps preserve the acid mantle, keeping your skin healthy, hydrated, and resilient against external factors.

Photo-Protecting

Photo-protecting skincare at a cellular level focuses on defending the skin against the internal damage triggered by UV exposure, rather than simply blocking rays at the surface. Ultraviolet radiation generates free radicals and disrupts cellular DNA, accelerating collagen breakdown, inflammation, and premature ageing. Advanced formulations work by neutralising oxidative stress, supporting DNA repair mechanisms, and strengthening the skin’s natural defence systems to limit long-term damage. By preserving cellular integrity and maintaining healthy skin function, this approach helps prevent visible signs of photo-ageing—such as wrinkles, loss of firmness, and uneven tone.

Reduces Trans Epidermal Water Loss

Reducing Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) is key to maintaining your skin’s optimal hydration levels. By strengthening your skin’s natural barrier, these ingredients prevent water from escaping, keeping your skin well-hydrated and plump. The result is a smoother, more supple complexion with improved texture and resilience, giving you a healthier, more radiant look.

Antioxidant

Antioxidant skincare is dedicated to protecting the skin against oxidative stress—one of the primary drivers of premature ageing and cellular damage—while preserving overall skin integrity and vitality. These formulations rely on potent molecules such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and polyphenols, which neutralize free radicals generated by UV exposure and environmental aggressors before they can compromise cellular structures like lipids, proteins, and DNA. Beyond defence, many antioxidants also support repair processes and enhance collagen stability, contributing to improved firmness, brightness and resilience. The result is skin that is not only shielded from ongoing damage but maintained in a healthier, more luminous state over time.

Hydrating

Hydration is a fundamental part of healthy skincare, focusing on maintaining and restoring the skin’s water content. Well-hydrated skin appears plump, smooth and radiant, while dehydration can lead to dullness, tightness, fine lines and increased sensitivity.
Hydrating the skin can work through a fascinating mix of ingredients with different roles. Humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin act like water magnets, pulling water into the skin to instantly plump and smooth, while Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMFs)—such as urea, amino acids and sodium PCA—mimic the skin’s own hydration system, helping it hold onto water and stay balanced from within.
Adding humectants like hyaluronic acid to your routine will restore your skin's healthy glow, minimize fine lines, and provide a plumping effect.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is renowned for its deeply nourishing benefits. It helps to repair and strengthen a weakened skin barrier while enhancing water retention. It quickly replenishes and restores dry, dehydrated and fragile skins.

Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil

Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil is a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil, exceptionally rich in oleic acid, antioxidants and behenic acid, giving it outstanding skin-identical affinity.
It actively repairs and reinforces the skin barrier, neutralises free radicals and delivers potent anti-inflammatory action to calm redness and irritation. Its unique ability to bind to pollutants and environmental toxins makes it a powerful ally against daily urban aggressors, while its regenerative properties support the skin's natural healing process.

Lactobacillus Ferment

Lactobacillus Ferment, a probiotic derived from the fermentation of Lactobacillus bacteria that focuses on microbiome balancing. A balanced microbiome is crucial for healthy skin as it strengthens the skin's barrier, reduces inflammation, and improves hydration, resulting in healthier and more resilient skin. It also helps maintain optimal pH levels and protects against infections.

Yacon Root

A prebiotic-rich extract derived from the Yacon plant, exceptionally high in fructooligosaccharides (FOS) — naturally occurring sugars that selectively feed and diversify beneficial bacteria on the skin's surface. By nourishing the skin's microbiome rather than introducing new bacteria directly, it creates the ideal environment for a balanced, resilient skin ecosystem, helping to regulate excess sebum, calm reactivity and reinforce the barrier function.

Sunflower Seed Oil

Pressed from the seeds of Helianthus Annuus, Sunflower Oil is a biologically active plant lipid with a high concentration of Linoleic Acid and Vitamin E. It enhances skin hydration, soothes inflammation, and supports skin regeneration. By stimulating collagen metabolism and reinforcing the lipid barrier, it helps to mitigate the damaging effects of UV exposure and environmental aggressors, contributing to improved skin resilience and suppleness.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful oil-soluble antioxidant renowned for its excellent skin-protecting and replenishing properties. It helps prevent premature ageing by safeguarding skin cell membranes from damaging free radicals. Its nourishing qualities strengthen the skin barrier, enhancing resilience against environmental aggressors and improving water retention by reducing trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). Additionally, Vitamin E has soothing effect thanks to it anti-inflammatory properties.

Glycerin

Glycerin is a potent humectant commonly used in skincare for its powerful hydrating properties. It works by attracting water molecules from the atmosphere and retaining them in the deeper layers of the skin, effectively boosting hydration reservoir. This helps to plump up the skin, resulting in reduced dehydration lines and a soft, supple complexion.

Aloe Leaf Juice

Aloe Leaf Juice has a long history of use for its calming, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating effects on the skin. Its versatility makes it suitable for all skin types, especially beneficial for dehydrated, weakened, and sensitive skin.

Beta-Sitosterol

Beta-Sitosterol is a plant-based fatty acid with a composition similar to cholesterol, a natural component of the skin barrier. Due to its barrier-replenishing properties, Beta-Sitosterol effectively combats dehydration and dryness. Rich in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds, it offers soothing, protective, and anti-ageing benefits. This multi-benefit ingredient helps to protect the skin form environmental aggressors, promoting a healthier, more resilient complexion while reducing sensitivity.

Pre, Pro & Postbiotics

The skin's microbiome — the vast, complex community of bacteria, fungi and microorganisms that live on its surface — is one of its most powerful and most overlooked defence systems. When balanced, it regulates inflammation, protects against environmental aggressors, supports barrier function and keeps the complexion clear and resilient. When disrupted by harsh cleansers, antibiotics, pollution or stress, the consequences show up directly on the skin — as sensitivity, breakouts, redness and accelerated ageing.
Prebiotics feed and strengthen the beneficial bacteria already present on the skin, creating the conditions for a thriving, diverse microbiome. Probiotics — whether live or tyndallized — introduce beneficial bacterial strains that actively rebalance flora, calm inflammation and reinforce the skin's natural defences. Postbiotics are the bioactive byproducts produced when probiotics ferment, delivering concentrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and barrier-repairing benefits directly to the skin. Together, the three work in intelligent synergy — nurturing, rebalancing and fortifying the microbiome at every level for skin that is not just visibly healthier, but fundamentally stronger from the inside out.

Why I love it

  • What sets Demain Beauty apart is how effortlessly these formulas translate the science of the microbiome into results you can actually see and feel. Each product is built around a sophisticated pre, pro and postbiotic complex — working in genuine harmony with the skin's own ecosystem rather than disrupting it, stripping it back or overwhelming it with unnecessary actives. It is intelligent, considered skincare that respects the skin's natural intelligence in return.
